We've heard of "America's Most Wanted" and all the people who the law searches for on a daily basis. But what about the threats and horrors online? Well, Damballa, an internet security firm in the United States has compiled a list of the top 10 most wanted Botnets. These are online, internet threats that are infected millions of computers in the United States alone.

1. The Zeus Trojan has infected nearly 3.6 million computers in the U.S. and is used to steal information such as usernames, passwords, credit card numbers and account numbers.

2. Koobface Malware comes in at number 2 with 2.9 million infections. This is spread through social networking sites to take control of the victims computer.

3. TidServ Trojan has popped up 1.5 million fake anti-virus programs on PC's in the U.S.

4. Trojan.Fakeavalert has gone from spamming to uploading other malware programs onto 1.4 Million Computers.

5. TR/Dldr.Agent.JKH is making profit off of all 1.2 Million computers infected by using a clickbot which is put onto the PC's via malware.

6. Monkif has compromised over 520,000 computers in the U.S. by uploading an adware "browser helper object"

7. Hamweq or IRCBrute, infecting over 480,000 PC's, is a worm which spreads itself through an infected PC and is an "autorun worm." Which, in turn allows the controller to recieve information straight from the PC.

8. Swizzor has used over 370,000 in its wake of destruction. It allows other adware and trojans to inject themselves onto a compromised computers.

9. Gammima has infected 230,000 computers and main focus is to steal online game account information: logins, passwords and other important information. Spectulation is that this worm was the one that got into the International Space Station in 2008.

10. Conficker comes in with only 210,000 infections in the U.S. However, compared to many of the top threats this is realitively new to the U.S.

Botnets are responsible for all of the previously mentioned, but isn't a big one that they are used in denial of service attacks on specific networks?

I would think that would be their second most malefic purpose next to credit/identity and account theft.
